september 11 tribute artwork! - a call for art plans!

HELLLP! I'm looking for some fabulous patriotic art projects to do with my kiddos right out of the gate this year. I'd love to be able to have a whole unit on symbolism and patriotic artwork to correspond with the 10-year anniversary of September 11.

Do you have a wonderful patriotic art lesson (any level) that you'd like to share? Please link your lesson in the comment section and I will link your lesson to the bottom of this post!

I have two lessons in this post that have a patriotic theme. One lesson is for 6th graders and is a newspaper/magazine collage of the American flag. The other lesson is for 8th graders and is a patriotic pointillism map of the United States.

  3. I just found your blog in a round about search thru Pinterest.... my first visit. I realize that I'm too late for your need this year. I am a former Elementary Art teacher turned to Author/Illustrator of picture books.

My newest book has just won a national INDIE Award of Excellenece. It is entiteld "Red, White and Blue" and is based on the lyics to an original song I wrote for children, immediately after 9-11. I designed the illustrations in fabric and created quilts to bring it to life.

It would be a perfect 'prompt' in the hands of an elementary art teacher. My first book would also be a total inspiration, but that's a whole different kettle of fish!

I hope that you have time to come and take a look. The post I put up on Sept. 11th is pretty comprehensive as to the back ground.
